We all know that our core muscles do a lot to stabilise us when we run. Without a strong core, fast and efficient running is made more difficult. Here a just two quick sessions I tend to do after a easy run or when I have a few minutes spare. Both sessions can be found by Coach Jay Johnson who has some great routines for building general strength for runners. I particularly like these as they are all based off doing an exercise for an amount of time with little rest rather than a set number of repetitions. There are some similar exercises in each so take your pick.
First up Core X: 30sec for each exercise for a total of 5mins:
Following this is Core H. This time the exercises last for 60seconds. I tend to change two of the exercises in actual session: Instead of the Back Hyper Breastroke with scissors I do a birddog, and the Indian Sit crunch is replaced with some Hip Ups (straight or with a twist).
Have a go yourself. What do you think?
